Daily Snap: Up and over

Pretty dynamic high jump shot. Great frame, and 400mm at f/4 properly bangs the background out of focus.

Daily Snap: Runner's joy

This guy, a senior, pumps his fist after winning a regional championship in the 400-meter dash, punching his ticket to Columbus for the state championship meet. Great celebration. This was at 400mm at f/4.

And another. High jumper.

Daily Snap: Safe at second

How about a non-traditional photograph at second base? Shooting low from the third-base line as the runner here evades the tag.

Daily Snap: Did you see that?

Great moment. Earlier in a high school softball game, a center fielder insisted that i keep my camera trained on her. She'd make a diving catch, she insisted. About two innings later, sure enough, a diving catch. Unfortunately, the catch was obstructed by a baserunner, but she immediately looked at me after the catch with this great expression.

Daily Snap: Baseball action

Back into the baseball/softball season for high school sports. Nice action at second base here.

Remembrance

Lovely moment from last week. Snapped a portrait of a family who lost their daughter to a congenital heart defect. Just as I was finishing up, these two boys -- unprompted! -- start taping hearts around a photograph of their late sister in a window.

Couldn't pass up that opportunity for a snap. 50mm at f/4.

Daily Snap: Love a good dive

That old sports photography adage: If you can make one sport look like another, you've made a good picture. This is basketball looking something like football. Nothing like a good dive for the ball, and this one came right in my direction. Hefty crop at 12,800 ISO, but the peak action makes up for it, I think.

Daily Snap: Milestone

Local high school hoopster reached 2,000 points last night. Didn't care about catching the basket itself (piece-of-cake layup, turns out), and wanted to catch the walk back upcourt and ensuing celebration with teammates. Setting turned out nicely for this one, and she trotted right into a clean gray spot on the background.

Daily Snap: 12,800 ISO? Why not.

Out of my pure hatred of motion blur, I've been pushing the ISO limits on my 5D Mark III to see how far it'll take me. Here's 12,800.

Daily Snap: Other side of wrestling

After a grueling match, an Ashland University wrestler sits in the stairwell (with a trashcan, for ... obvious reasons) during a dual with Case Western Reserve on Wednesday.

B+W Thursdays

New weekly thing? Maybe. But I re-processed this as black and white, and like the feel. Something about the ceiling and lights.

Daily Snap: Different look at wrestling

Ashland University does a one-overhead light for wrestling duals. Very dramatic. So with background completely dark, it offers opportunity for good, dark negative space. Love the look on this guy.
